Satirist P.J. O'Rourke talked about his book Driving Like Crazy: Thirty Years of Vehicular Hell-Bending, Celebrating America the Way It's Supposed to Be -- With an Oil Well in Every Backyard, a Cadillac Escalade in Every Carport, and the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Mowing Our Lawn (Atlantic Monthly Press; June 9, 2009). It is a collection of pieces about cars from a span of over thirty years. Mr. O'Rourke talked about America's love affair with cars, and how the automobile has changed American culture, including the history of his family, which owns a car dealership in Ohio. He talked about the current bankruptcies in the automotive industry and how he believes that would contribute to cultural decline in America. Mr. O'Rourke responded to questions from members of the audience. P.J. O'Rourke is the author of nine previous books, including Eat the Rich; All the Trouble in the World; and Republican Party Reptile. He has been a freelance writer for numerous magazines including Playboy, Vanity Fair, The New Republic and Harper's. He currently writes for Rolling Stone and The Atlantic Monthly.
