Richard Ben-Veniste talked about his book The Emperor's New Clothes: Exposing the Truth from Watergate to 9/11 (Thomas Dunne Books; May 26, 2009). In his book he recounts his legal career in Washington, focusing on five major cases including his tenures as chief of the Watergate Task Force, minority chief counsel of the Senate Whitewater Committee, and as a member of the 9/11 Commission. His themes were the intersection of law and politics and the problems of the hypocrisy and hubris of those in power and overcoming secrecy in order to achieve accountability. Mr. Ben-Veniste read passages from his book and responded to questions from members of the audience. This event was an author's salon hosted by Dezenhall Resources in Washington, D.C.
