Pico Iyer talked about his book The Open Road: The Global Journey of the Fourteenth Dalai Lama (Vintage; reprint edition March 10, 2009). Mr. Iyer, a travel writer, talked about his own work and the life, work, and politics of the Dalai Lama. He has known the spiritual and political leader of Tibet for more than 30 years. The Tibetan Buddhist, who has been living in exile in India for the past 50 years, travels the world but can never go home to his Chinese-occupied country. After his opening remarks Mr. Iyer was interviewed on stage by Mr. Weiner. Mr. Iyer also responded to questions from members of the audience.
