John and Elizabeth Roberts talked about their book Freeing Tibet: 50 Years of Struggle, Resilience, and Hope (AMACOM; March 4, 2009). Using recently declassified documents and interviews with Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and political insiders, the authors
recount Tibet’s March 1959 national uprising against Chinese occupation, the Dalai Lama’s flight into exile, and the efforts by the Tibetans to reclaim their land. 2009 marks the fiftieth year of exile for the Dalai Lama and the situation in Tibet has become more volatile than ever. The authors responded to questions from members of the audience and Internet viewers.
