A panel discussion was held on the effect of the economic downturn on the employment and economic security of women. Policy options discussed included: women’s participation in non-traditional fields of construction, engineering and energy; The Paycheck Fairness Act, which stiffed penalties against employers who discriminate against workers on the basis of gender; and strengthening the Social Safety Net to provide low-income women and families a means of support and job training. Panelists responded to questions from the audience.
