After opening remarks by several participants, policy makers and energy industry leaders spoke about building a modern electricity grid and reducing reliance on foreign oil. Among the topics the addressed were environmental concerns and benefits associated with alternative energy production, costs of infrastructure improvements, available technology and needed research, and potential economic impact of development of a “green” energy sector. The forum at the Newseum was titled “National Clean Energy Project: Building the New Economy.”
