Sana Butler talked about and from Sugar of the Crop: My Journey to Find the Children of Slaves (The Lyons Press; January 23, 2009). In the book she presents the story of a quest to find the last surviving children of slaves. She finds subjects all over the country, from Los Angeles to New Orleans to Virginia, presenting a view of post-Civil War life in America shared by few living Americans. Following her remarks she responded to questions from audience members.
