Richard Norton Smith talked about President Abraham Lincoln’s wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. This was part of an eight-day President Abraham Lincoln bicentennial tour that Mr. Smith was leading through about 20 Lincoln sites in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. A docent led the group through the house where Mary Todd lived from the 13- to 21-years old and where Abraham Lincoln visited her family. She also stayed there with her children while her husband was a U.S. representative. The docent talked about Mary Todd’s family, upbringing, education, life, and character. He also talked about the restoration. The Mary Todd Lincoln House was the first site restored to honor a first lady.
