Governor David Paterson was joined by several New York Democratic Party leaders as he announced announced his appointment of Representative Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Following his introduction of Representative Gillibrand, she spoke about her commitment to the people of New York, as well as her stance on some controversial issues such as gun control and marriage equality. After her remarks Senator Schumer and Representative Lowey spoke about the appointment. They answered questions from reporters. Former Senator Al D’Amato was among the dignitaries in attendance.
