Mr. Allen spoke about the announcement by Illinois Governor Blagojevich of Roland Burris as his appointee for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-Elect Barack Obama. He also talked about opposition by the Senate leadership to the appointment and a statement reiterating their intention not to seat any appointee designated by Governor Blagojevich who was under investigation for corruption and facing impeachment proceedings in the Illinois legislature.
