Richard Rosenbaum talked about and read from No Room for Democracy: The Triumph of Ego over Common Sense, his book that explains how he orchestrated the successful campaign to have Rockefeller replace Spiro Agnew as Vice President and how he helped deny Ronald Reagan the 1976 GOP presidential nomination. The book provides rare insight into the transformation of the Republican Party from moderate to conservative leading up to the Reagan revolution. Following his remarks, two St. John Fisher Philosophy professors and a former New York state Republican National Committee chair participated in a panel discussion with Mr. Rosenbaum.
Mr. Rosenbaum is Senior Counsel in Nixon Peabody, LLP. A graduate of Cornell University law school, he started his legal and political career in Rochester, New York, served in the County Legislature and became chairman of the Monroe County Republican Committee in 1968. In 1970, he was appointed to be a Justice of the Supreme Court of New York State by former Governor Nelson Rockefeller. In 1973, he became the Chairman of the New York State Republican Committee, a position he held until 1977. He ran for governor of New York in 1994. He is the recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and has written extensively on Middle Eastern policy.
