Titanic’s Last Secrets: The Further Adventures of Shadow Divers John Chatterton and Richie Kohler (Twelve; October 1, 2008) author Brad Matsen talked about his book with deep-sea divers and shipwreck investigators, John Chatterton and Richie Kohler, both of whom assisted Mr. Matsen in writing the book. Following their discussion they responded to questions from the audience. In the book Mr. Matsen presented new research on the Titanic disaster to comprehend why the ship sank so quickly. They contend that the Titanic’s flaws were born during the construction of the ship. The author and researchers surmised that the ship’s hull originally called for greater steel plating and bigger rivets. The result of a lighter ship allowed for a savings on weight and coal to power the Titanic but may have also been the reason for the ship’s rapid demise.
Shipwreck divers Richie Kohler and John Chatterton were co-hosts of the History Channel’s “Deep Sea Detectives” and contributors to Robert Kurson’s book Shadow Divers.
