The theme of the final day of the Republican National Convention at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, was "Peace: A Safer and More Secure America." The convention's overall theme was "Country First." Featured speakers included former Senator Bill Frist; Senators Lindsey Graham, Sam Brownback, Mel Martinez and John Ensign; former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge; and Governor Tom Pawlenty. Governor Sarah Palin became the Republican vice presidential nominee by acclamation. The evening culminated with a speech by Cindy McCain, and then an acceptance speech by Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain.
