Secretary Alexander gave a partisan assessment of the Bush administration’s record on education in a news conference in the National Press Club in Washington, DC. He criticized comments made by Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton earlier in the day in a speech to the National Education Association, and claimed the Bush administration backed real change in education as opposed to the status quo favored by Gov. Clinton. He also criticized the NEA’s endorsement of Gov. Clinton. Secretary Alexander spoke in front of a large poster emblazoned with the words, “Bush-Quayle '92.”
