The Democratic National Committee held a platform draft hearing, a meeting in which committee members composed their party’s political platform for 1992. This year, Democrats are faced with the task of securing their traditional base of support, from minorities, women, liberals, and labor. At the same time, Democrats are trying to snare disaffected Democrats who might consider voting for Independent Ross Perot or for George Bush. Describing these challenges, Democratic Party chair Ron Brown says that Democrats are stronger in 1992 than they’ve been in decades.
