President George H.W. Bush announced the nomination of Barbara Franklin to be Secretary of Commerce, replacing Robert Mosbacher. Ms. Franklin was a long-time supporter of President Bush, and had recently co-chaired a fundraising dinner that collected more than $1 million for the President’s reelection campaign. After brief remarks by Ms. Franklin, the President took questions from reporters on the situation in the former Soviet Union, and the state of the U.S. economy. close
