A panel of journalists and legal experts discussed the confirmation process for appointees to the Supreme Court in a forum at the National Press Club, sponsored by the Harvard Club of Washington, DC. Earlier in the year, District Court of Appeals Judge Clarence Thomas had been nominated and confirmed to the Supreme Court in a four month process that included three days of hearings on allegations of sexual harassment lodged against Judge Thomas. The confirmation of Judge Thomas was brought up in the discussion, as was the failed nomination of Judge Robert Bork during President Reagan’s second term. The participants in the discussion responded to questions from members of the audience following their opening remarks. close
