By voice vote, the Senate passed S. 5, to grant employees family and temporary medical leave under certain circumstances. The Bond/Ford/Coats Amendment No. 1245, in the nature of a substitute, was passed by 65 yeas and 32 nays. The Durenberger Amendment No. 1248, to express the sense of the Congress that parties with disputes over rights should attempt to resolve them without resort to litigation, was rejected by 40 yeas to 57 nays. The Hatch/Lugar Amendment No. 1249, in the nature of a substitute, was rejected by 32 yeas to 65 nays. By a unanimous vote of 97 yeas, the Senate agreed to S.Res. 186, expressing the Senate’s support for democracy in Haiti. By a unanimous vote of 97 yeas, the Senate passed S.J.Res. 110, expressing the sense of the Congress that the United States and Soviet Union should lead an effort to promptly repeal United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3379. By voice vote the Senate passed H.R. 2387, to authorize appropriations for certain programs for the conservation of striped bass. The passed H.R. 3259 by voice vote, to authorize funds for drug abuse education and prevention programs relating to youth gangs and to runaway and homeless youth.
