The committee continued to hear testimony on Robert Gates, former Deputy Director of Central Intelligence, on the third day of Mr. Gates' confirmation hearings to become director of Central Intelligence. Mr. Polgar, a former official in the Central Intelligence Agency who worked on the congressional investigation in the Iran-Contra affair, testified that Mr. Gates must have known about the Iran-Contra affair due to his closeness with former Director of Central Intelligence William Casey. He said Mr. Gates acted as director of the CIA during Mr. Casey’s absence, and had access to all CIA information on the affair.
