The committee heard testimony from private businessperson and former director of the Foreign Policy Association Dwayne Andreas, whose company Archer Daniels Midland Company sells grain to the Soviet Union. Mr. Andreas testified on trade with the Soviet Union before and after the failed coup by communist hard-liners, on the Soviet Union’s agricultural production, and on proposals for U.S. aid to avert a possible famine in the Soviet Union in the upcoming winter.
