E.J Dionne was raised in Fall River, Mass. and attended Harvard University. He did his doctorate study at Oxford as a Rhodes scholar. He worked for The New York Times, and later, for The Washington Post. His book Why Americans Hate Politics deals with apathy among the American electorate due to dissatisfaction with the political process. In the interview, he describes the origins of post-World War II conservatism from libertarianism and traditionalism, and he discusses the problems of both conservatism and liberalism. close
