Senator Barack Obama spoke about U.S.-Europe relations at an event held at the Victory Column in the Tiergarten in Berlin, Germany. In his remarks he noted Berlin’s experience following World War II and as a divided city, spoke about ties between the U.S. and Europe, outlined some future challenges to international security, and called for renewed cooperation and collaboration to meet future challenges. He also called on European allies to share more of the burden of NATO operations in Afghanistan, join in nuclear nonproliferation efforts, and act to reduce carbon emissions to reduce global warming.

Crowds, estimated in excess of 200,000, filled the public paths of the Tiergarten from the Victory Column to the Brandenburg Gate. close
