United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon spoke at the opening ceremony of the three-day World Food Security Conference in Rome. With some third-world countries experiencing riots in recent weeks over a lack of food, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on world leaders to lower food-related export restrictions and import tariffs. He also called for global food production to rise by 50 percent in the next 20 years to meet growing demand. close
