James Percoco talked about his book Summers with Lincoln: Looking for the Man in the Monuments, published by Fordham University Press. In his book he surveyed 200 memorials erected in memory of President Abraham Lincoln, examining what the monuments meant when they were unveiled, what they mean to the nation today, and what they mean to him. Topics included assumptions about Abraham Lincoln, civic commemoration, American civil religion, collective memory, and mythology. During his presentation Mr. Percoco showed extensive slides of statues and talked about what he termed the seven greatest statues. He talked about field trips with his students to see the statues. He also responded to questions from members of the audience. close
