A panel discussion was held on the legacy of Thurgood Marshall, the first black U.S. Supreme Court Justice. The panelists speculated on what Justice Marshall's opinions would be on current issues, and talked about his character and his place in history. They talked about the different philosophies for dismantling a discriminatory system either through color-blind or color-conscience methods, and compared Justices Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas. Topics included affirmative action, capital punishment, and the 2008 presidential election. Mr. Reeves moderated. Juan Williams is the author of Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary. This panel, "Life and Legacy of Justice Thurgood Marshall," was part of a symposium honoring the 100th birthday of Thurgood Marshall, the first black U.S. Supreme Court Justice. The symposium, held at the Telecom Center in Jackson, Mississippi, by the Mississippi College School of Law Law Review, focused on Justice Marshall's impact on government and legal issues.
