Fourteen years previously, on February 10, 1994, Nathan McCall was interviewed on C-SPAN’s “Booknotes” about his memoir Makes Me Wanna Holler, published by Random House. It was the story of his early life that included running with gangs, committing crimes, his three-year prison sentence for armed robbery, and then changing his life to eventually become a reporter for the Washington Post. Throughout the book, Mr. McCall detailed his experiences with racial relations and his anger towards whites. Video clips from the 1994 program were shown as he talked about how time has changed his life and his thoughts on race. He also talked about his collection of essays about social issues and problems, What’s Going On, published by Vintage, and a new novel titled Them, published by Atria. close
