Tom Blanton talked about access to federal government documents through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). During the week the House approved a bill to fix some of the problems with the current FOIA system, including a lack of responsiveness by federal agencies to requests for government records. The OPEN Government Act, which passed the Senate the previous week, next goes to the president. The National Security Archive, which is an independent non-governmental research institute and library located at George Washington University, collects and publishes declassified documents obtained through FOIA. close
