In 1955 novelist Wallace Stegner was commissioned to document the history of the Aramco company who assisted in the development of the oil industry in Saudi Arabia. Upon submitting his manuscript to Aramco in 1956 the author was notified that the book would not be published. Over fifty years later Tim Barger published Mr. Stegner’s work, Discovery! The Search for Arab Oil, that presents the American and Saudi discovery of oil. Tim Barger and Thomas Lippman discussed the book at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. They responded to questions from audience members.

Thomas Lippman was formerly the Middle East bureau chief for Washington Post. He was a reporter and editor for The Washington Post (1966-1999, 2003), covering the war in Iraq in 2003, and served as diplomatic, national security, and Middle East correspondent (based in Cairo).

Tim Barger is the publisher of Selwa Press. Mr. Barger is the son of the former CEO and President of Aramco, Thomas Barger.
