Nicholson Baker talked about his book, Human Smoke: The Beginnings of World War II, the End of Civilization, which is a collection of previously published news items from the 1930s and 1940s in the lead-up to World War II. Mr. Baker culled newspapers, memoirs, magazines and radio items to reproduce the feel of the day and discovered several stories that he contended were underreported in the historical analyses of the War. Mr. Baker discussed his book with author and historian Simon Winchester on stage and then responded to audience members' questions.

This event was held in the South Court Auditorium of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library. close
