Joe Madison talked about his life and current work as a radio talk show host and civil rights activist. Topics included his struggles to be a black voice on radio, his weight-loss surgery, Darfur, controversial remarks by a Washington Post writer about Washnington Mayor Marion Barry, being the first national black radio talk show host, and naming himself the Black Eagle.

Joe Madison worked for the NAACP in Detroit NAACP and served on the national board of directors. In 1980 he started an additional career as a talk show personality on Detroit’s WXYZ-AM. He is known as “The Black Eagle” by his Radio-One WOL-AM listeners in Washington D.C. and nationally on XM Satellite Radio’s “The Power.” He also organized a “Sudan Campaign” for divestment in Sudan. close
