Steven Pinker talked about his book, The Stuff of Thought: Language as a Window into Human Nature, published by Penguin. He talked about the relationship between language and the way we think, especially the use of profanity and what it says about us. Topics included the way the mind works, and the use of prepositions and tenses that tap into peculiarly human concepts about space and time. Mr. Pinker used slides throughout his presentation. This program contains language that some viewers may find offensive. The event was held in collaboration with the Smithsonian Resident Associates.
