Secretary Edward Schafer talked about Congress’s efforts to develop a farm bill. The current farm bill expires March 15, and the House, Senate and White House have been moving in different directions on how to finance it. He also talked about food safety oversight and other issues. He responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.

Secretary Schafer was sworn in on January 28. He was a former two-term governor of North Dakota.
