William Middendorf discussed his book, A Glorious Disaster: Barry Goldwater’s Presidential Campaign and the Origins of the Conservative Movement, published by Basic Books. In his book Mr. Middendorf says that even though Mr. Goldwater lost the 1964 presidential election in a landslide, he still managed to set the agenda for the modern conservative movement. Mr. Middendorf served as treasurer for the Goldwater campaign and provides an insiders perspective on the 1964 presidential election. The guest interviewer was David Frum.

William Middendorf served in the Nixon, Ford, and Reagan administrations as secretary of the Navy, ambassador to The Netherlands, U.S. representative to the Organization of American States, and U.S. representative to the European Community. He is a founding member, with William F. Buckley, Jr., of the American Conservative Union and a board member of the Heritage Foundation.
