On the first day of the new Parliamentary session, Queen Elizabeth delivered a speech from the throne in the House of Lords. The speech was written by the government, and outlined its priorities for the coming year. Members of the House of Commons and House of Lords attended the official ceremony. The royal procession in which the queen travels by horse-drawn coach from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster and other ceremonial aspects of the occasion were part of the live simulcast.
The BBC’s coverage was hosted by Huw Edwards, who was joined by BBC political editor Nick Robinson and other commentators.
