Roderick MacFarquhar talked about the book he wrote with Michael Schoenhals, Mao’s Last Revolution, published by Belknap Press. The book recounts China’s Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution that lasted from 1966 to 1976. Professor MacFarquhar explained that Mao and his people were responsible for mass executions that killed and injured millions of people. He concluded that these events may have set the stage for a more democratic China in the future. After his presentation he responded to audience members' questions. close
