Robert Block was interviewed about the book he co-authored with Christopher Cooper, Disaster: Hurricane Katrina and the Failure of Homeland Security, published by Times Books. Mr. Block talked about new details in the book regarding the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina, sometimes called the greatest natural disaster in U.S. history. Topics included emergency response, preparations, communications, levee breaches and flooding, and faults in the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

One year after the event, Mr. Block discussed the book with James Lee Witt, former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the Clinton administration. close
