On the 50th anniversary of the Interstate highway system, T.R. Reid and Richard Capka talked about the state of U.S. highways and funding for the system. On June 29, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Federal Aid Highway Act, which created the federal highway system. Mr. Capka responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.
