The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee held a hearing on the “Report to the Congress on International Economic and Exchange Rate Policies” prepared by the secretary of the treasury. Secretary Snow testified about a number of issues including a trade imbalance with China, efforts to change Chinese monetary policy and currency valuation, the size of trade deficits and the national debt, and pressures on international exchange rates.
