The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing on the Middle East and the outcome of the Palestinian elections. Witnesses testified about the potential impact of Hamas' control of the Palestinian Authority on the peace process, Israel’s response to the election of Hamas, efforts to ensure that Hamas renounce calls for the destruction of the Israeli state and renounce violence, the financial status of the Palestinian Authority, as well as security concerns in the region.
