Douglas Brinkley talked about the book he co-wrote with Julie Fenster, Parish Priest: Father Michael McGivney and American Catholicism, published by William Morrow. The book profiles the life and career of Father Michael McGivney, who is under consideration for sainthood in the Roman Catholic Church. Father McGivney (1852-1890) entered the seminary at the age of sixteen and later founded the Knights of Columbus to help impoverished communities in 1882. Mr. Brinkley described Father McGivney’s legacy and attempted to explain why he may be the first American-born parish priest to be declared a saint by the Vatican. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions.
