Ambassador L. Paul Bremer was interviewed about his memoir, written with Malcolm McConnell, My Year in Iraq: The Struggle to Build a Future of Hope, published by Simon and Schuster. Ambassador Bremer discussed serving as the administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq after the American invasion. He was named presidential envoy to Iraq on May 6, 2003, by President Bush. For fourteen months, he was responsible for rebuilding Iraq’s economy, creating a democratic political system, and dealing with security threats while running a country of twenty-five million people. He was interviewed by Jim Hoagland, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and senior foreign correspondent for the Washington Post.

Ambassador Bremer held many positions during his 23-year State Department career. In 1983 President Regan appointed him ambassador to the Netherlands and in 1986 ambassador at large for Counter Terrorism. In September 1999 he was appointed chairman of the bipartisan Nation close
