Secretary Rumsfeld and General Pace briefed reporters on military operations in Iraq, efforts to combat terrorism, and the state of security training of Iraqi forces. In his remarks Secretary Rumsfeld expressed his displeasure with the term “insurgency” for describing resistance forces in Iraq. In his answers to several questions General Pace struggled to find other descriptions for the Iraq insurgency. He also corrected Secretary Rumsfeld on regulations pertaining to military personnel witnessing inhumane treatment of detainees, saying that U.S. personnel were required to take action to prevent the treatment rather than merely report the incident. close
