Albert Borowitz and Marc Sageman, who have written books about terrorism, discussed the motivation behind terrorist acts. Mr. Borowitz used Greek literature to explain that terrorism is triggered by a need to be famous. Using charts and graphs, Mr. Sageman discussed his research of over 400 terrorist biographies and offered his solutions for defeating global terrorism. Following their separate presentations, both authors responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. Mr. Earnest introduced the guests and moderated the event.

Mr. Borowitz is the author of Terrorism for Self-Glorification: The Herostratos Syndrome, published by Kent State University Press. Marc Sageman, who testified before the 9/11 Commission on his Al Qaeda findings, is the author of Understanding Terror Networks, published by University of Pennsylvania Press. close
