Sherwin Nuland was interviewed about his life as well as his book How We Die: Reflections on Life’s Final Chapter, published by Knopf. He discussed his writings on medicine, bioethics, euthanasia, and medical history. Video footage of his home office in Hamden, Connecticut was shown. Dr. Nuland also responded to telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail from viewers.

Dr. Sherwin Nuland is the author of numerous books on bioethics and the history of medicine. His 1994 book How We Die: Reflections on Life’s Final Chapter, published by Vintage, won the National Book Award and has been translated into 17 languages. His other books include Doctors: The Biography of Medicine (1988), Medicine: The Art of Healing (1992), The Wisdom of the Body (1997), and The Mysteries Within: A Surgeon Reflects on Medical Myths (2000).
