Outside of the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing room, Senator Schumer and hearing witnesses spoke to reporters about United States Supreme Court nominee Judge John Roberts. 

Ms. Thernstrom criticized the Democratic attitude during the hearings, saying that they should have attended more of the hearings. Senator Schumer discussed the nominee’s responses to questions about such issues as privacy. He felt that Judge Roberts' answers were insufficient. Following his remarks, Senator Schumer responded to questions from reporters.

Ms. Long and Mr. Coffin spoke about Judge Roberts' responses and commended him for refusing to answer questions relating to cases that may appear before the court. Ms. Smeal and Ms. Gandy criticized the responses of the nominee as well as the proceedings themselves.
