Senator Arlen Specter, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, was interviewed about the upcoming hearings on John Roberts' Supreme Court nomination. He also talked about his current battle with cancer and his past medical problems; his recent meeting with Fidel Castro; plans to hold a hearing on detainees at Guantanamo Bay; and Chief Justice Rehnquist’s health. He discussed relations between Congress and the Supreme Court including the separation of powers, the possibility of term limits, the extent of the Court’s interference with Congress and of the control Congress has over the Supreme Court. Among other issues he intends to address with Judge Roberts are the importance of precedence and standards for using the commerce clause. close
