Ken Paulson was interviewed about the future of the newspaper industry. He became editor of USA Today in April 2004. He replaced Karen Jurgensen, who resigned following a scandal over sources invented by reporter Jack Kelley. A video clip of Jack Kelley on Washington Journal on April 30, 1999 was shown and the use on anonymous sources was discussed. Other topics included the importance of awards such as the Pulitzer Prize, the style of the newspaper, circulation figures, advertising rates, and the migration of readers to online platforms. He discussed other incidents at the newspaper, including a reporter who plagiarized quotes and how memos about George Bush’s National Guard service were used. He also discussed his career and his work at the First Amendment Center teaching about the history of the Bill of Rights. close
