The 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission began final deliberations before submitting its report to the president on September 8, 2005. Commissioners heard reports for staff members and considered several motions and amendments to Defense Department recommendations.
In the afternoon of the third day of the final hearings, motions focused on recommendations for Air Force base realignments and closures. Mr. Small presented a review and analysis of the Air Force’s recommendations for closure and realignment.
Installations considered for realignment included Hill Air Force Base (UT), Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport Air Guard Station (OH), Mountain Home Air Force Base (ID), Richmond International Airport Air Guard Station (VA), Great Falls International Airport Air Guard Station (MT), Ellington Field Air Guard Station (TX), Fort Smith Municipal Airport Air Guard Station (AR), Capital Airport Air Guard Station (IL), Hector International Airport Air Guard Station (ND), Duluth International Airport Air Guard Station (MN), Andrews Air Force Base (MD), Boise Air Terminal Air Guard Station (ID), Reno-Tahoe International Airport Air Guard Station (NV), and Nashville International Airport Air Guard Station (TN).
Installations considered for closure included WK Kellogg Airport Air Guard Station (MI), Mansfield-Lahm Municipal Airport Air Guard Station (OH), Martin State Air Guard Station (MD), and Kulis Air Guard Station (AK).
