Timothy Naftali talked about his book, Blind Spot: The Secret History of American Counterterrorism, published by Basic Books. In the book he writes that following World War II, the United States had developed a highly-efficient system of counterterrorism which was not regularly monitored and updated and eventually became outdated and inefficient. It wasn’t until the radical groups of the late 1960s and 70s began taking American hostages that the United States was once again forced to confront terrorism. The author traces the history of American counterterrorism through America’s global battle with terrorism after September 11, 2001. After his presentation he answered questions from members of the audience.
