The funeral service for Vice Admiral James Stockdale (Ret.) was held at the Naval Academy Chapel. Eulogies were given by his four sons, Adm. William Crowe (Ret.), and Adm. Michael Mullen. Chaplain Steven Smith presided and Chaplain Hogg sang. Sen. John McCain, Ross Perot, and Rep. Sam Johnson were among the honorary pallbearers. Vice Admiral Stockdale (Ret.) was the highest-ranking officer held as a P.O.W. during the Vietnam War. He was held for more than seven years and received the Medal of Honor for resisting his North Vietnamese captors. He was also the Independent Party vice-presidential candidate in 1992, running with Ross Perot. Adm. Stockdale died on July 5, 2005 at the age of 81.
